PMP, CAE, Managing Director of Technology Advancement and Business Development, ASME


John’s professional career includes over 32 years of experience coordinating multi-discipline engineering activities supporting design, analysis, licensing, fabrication, construction and operation of mechanical systems.  Since September 2002 he has served in various roles as a not-for-profit staff executive at the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), where he currently serves as the Managing Director, Technology Advancement and Business Development (TABD).  In this role he coordinates enterprise-wide strategy implementation which includes a focus on five technology areas – manufacturing, clean energy, bioengineering, robotics, and pressure technology.  John’s responsibilities include technology and market leadership, portfolio management, constituent organization relationships and engagement, content integration, product development, and new business development.  He also serves as President of the ASME Standards Technology, LLC (ASME ST-LLC), which provides new standards-related products and services which advance the application of emerging and newly commercialized technology and maintain the technical relevance of ASME codes and standards.

Prior duties at ASME have included operational and administrative oversight of ASME's Washington Center which coordinates ASME’s Government Relations, Engineering Education, Industry Advisory Board, and Public Affairs & Outreach programs.  He formerly served on ASME’s Sector Management Committee (SMC) as primary staff representative for the Technical Events and Content (TEC) sector.  He previously served on the ASME Standards and Certification staff as the Managing Director, Technology and Personnel Certification.  He also served as President of the ASME Personnel Certification LLC (ASME PC-LLC).

Prior to joining ASME John managed major projects in the submarine telecommunications cable industry, worked as a project engineer and manager in the commercial nuclear power industry, and served as a U.S. Navy submarine officer.

John holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy and a Masters Certificate in Project Management from George Washington University.  He is certified by the Project Management Institute (PMI) as a Project Management Professional (PMP) and by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) as a Certified Association Executive (CAE).
