How did your career journey lead to change and configuration management?
By unintentional design! Ha. Having started my career in Design Engineering, the principles of configuration items and change traceability were standard processes. At the time, I had known the practice to be called Product Data Management. It wasn’t until 2015 that I made the transition from Design Engineering to Change Specialist. Realizing that being process-oriented and having a pragmatic approach to problem-solving were key attributes to CM, I dove right in.
What was your introduction to CM2?
My introduction in the CM2 series was 100% because of a previous manager. Being a CM2-P, he understood the value that the certifications brought to an enterprise. By the time I had completed the requirements for CM2-B, I was hooked on the CM2 methodology!
How has CM2 been beneficial to your career growth?
It has been pivotal in the growth of my career. A foundation on which I have strived to build upon. The CM2 model has allowed me to reach successes beyond my immediate role with an organization, providing exposure that otherwise may not have been available.
What’s one professional skill you’re currently working on?
Currently, I am enhancing my communication and leadership skills. Both of these areas are critical pieces to gaining the trust of internal and external stakeholders.
What might someone be surprised to know about you?
That I play competitive paintball.
What do you do for fun?
Acquiring new skills is something I find to be an engaging and rewarding activity.
